A Timeless Tradition of Unity and Celebration

Hartmann North America recently co-sponsored the annual and historic White House Easter Egg Roll, hosted by First Lady Jill Biden.

Dating back to 1878, the event remains a cherished tradition uniting families and egg farmers. Hartmann's participation underscores its history and dedication to the egg industry.

Once again, on April 1, 2024, the South Lawn of the White House was filled with exciting activities for the whole family. The event included  storytime, games, live entertainment, and of course the traditional Easter Egg Roll.

Hartmann Teamed Up with American Egg Board

Mike McGriff, our North American Sales & Marketing Director, represented us at the event by volunteering with the American Egg Board.

He led a game at the 'Hen to Home' egg packing station where kids raced to see who could hand pack a dozen eggs the fastest... in a Hartmann carton of course!

We were proud to donate egg cartons made at Hartmann's facility in Rolla, Missouri, for the game.

“We were excited to help sponsor the annual event to show our support for the American Egg Board and America's egg farmers. Hartmann was one of only just a couple of companies invited on the White House lawn that were not egg producers,” says Mike.

As sustainability is at the forefront of what we do, we were proud that our recyclable, compostable and biodegradable egg cartons were put to good for the event. Made from recycled paper and corrugate material, they helped to make the event a more sustainable one.

"It was fun to see egg cartons made at our U.S. facility in Rolla being used for the White House Egg Roll game," he adds.

White House Continues Cherished Easter Egg Roll, a Beloved Event since 1878

Once again, in 2024, both the President and the First Lady participated as patrons, continuing the tradition for another memorable year.

Over forty thousand people participated in this year's “EGGucation” Roll on Easter Monday including thousands of military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors and many other lucky guests from across the country.

It was once again a resounding success, thanks to The American Egg Board and the support of sponsors.

From the delightful egg decorating stations to the fun games and activities, the event fostered the creation of lifelong memories for attendees and volunteers alike.

Since 1878, American presidents and their families have celebrated Easter Monday with an "egg roll" party at the White House, making it one of the oldest annual events in White House history.

Initially popularized on Capitol Hill in the 1870s, the tradition outgrew its original location due to its increasing popularity. In 1878, President Rutherford B. Hayes invited children to roll their Easter eggs on the White House lawn, solidifying the tradition.

Over the years, each First Family has added their own unique touch to this beloved event and this year was no exception. Embracing the theme of "EGGucation" has been a big success for the Biden family.

About the American Egg Board (AEB)
The American Egg Board (AEB) supports America’s egg farmers in its mission to increase demand for U.S. eggs and egg products through marketing efforts. It was created by an Act of Congress in 1976 at the request of America’s egg farmers, who desired to pool resources for national category-level research, education, and promotion necessary to market eggs.
