Hartmann is ready for the PPWR

With the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) now applicable, Hartmann has completed the necessary testing and documentation activities to support compliance. Our EU Declaration of Conformity and PFAS Statement are now available for download.

Published 17 August 2026

On 12 August 2026, the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) became applicable across the European Union. The regulation introduces harmonised requirements for packaging, including recyclability, documentation and restrictions on certain substances used in food-contact packaging. At Hartmann, we have taken the necessary steps to ensure that our moulded fibre egg packaging complies with the applicable EU harmonisation legislation. This work has included independent laboratory testing, reviews of supplier documentation, and the preparation of compliance documentation.

New EU requirements for packaging become applicable

The EU Declaration of Conformity is Hartmann’s formal declaration that our moulded fibre egg packaging complies with the applicable requirements of relevant EU legislation, including Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste.

The PFAS Statement addresses the new PPWR restrictions on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in food-contact packaging. Independent laboratory testing of representative Hartmann egg packaging products confirmed compliance with the PFAS thresholds established under Article 5 of the PPWR.

“With the PPWR now in effect, transparent compliance documentation has become more important than ever. We prepared early by completing the necessary testing and assessments and by issuing our EU Declaration of Conformity and PFAS Statement. This enables our customers to access the documentation they need and reinforces our commitment to quality, product safety and regulatory compliance.”
