As most of us know, the humble egg is a nutritional and economic miracle. Families, villages, and even entire companies have been nourished by Nature’s little marvel. Healthy, wholesome and sustainable, it contains most of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants the body needs, and is widely recognized for its role in healthy balanced diets. And being so affordable makes the egg unbeatable – it has the power to reach corners of the world that other forms of sustenance simply can’t.
But its reputation has recently been under threat from campaigns by powerful and well-funded activists. The agenda of multinational food companies, NGOs, food start-ups and individual ideoligists has built up a strong anti-livestock narrative in international organisations and consumer groups. The picture they paint across mainstream and social media is far from the truth.
So the International Egg Commission (IEC) has decided they can’t be allowed to get away with it - and they recently announced their new initiative - Vision 365 - to put the record straight.
It’s a 10-year plan that aims to tell the world about the bountiful gifts we enjoy from this perfect little nutrition bomb – and double worldwide consumption by 2032.
By telling the true story on a global scale, they hope to boost this valuable industry and establish a greater shared future. This will create jobs and opportunities for entrepreneurs in all parts of the world – but in particular the impoverished nations where eggs provide essential nutrients to the growing population.
The incredible egg
Egg production is one of the world’s most environmentally-friendly forms of agricultural production. Hens convert feed into protein very efficiently and need comparatively little land to do so. However, as an industry, IEC is always striving for continuous improvement, and has committed to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
To encourage support for project, IEC released this video to demonstrate the power of the egg as an affordable, nutritious, and low-impact food source:

A big egg role: Hartmann’s important part in the egg industry
