FiberWise® MAP Fibre Trays: Reducing fossil dependency and supply gaps
A fibre‑based MAP solution for fresh protein packaging, reducing fossil resource use while ensuring supply security.
FiberWise® MAP Fibre Trays for Fresh Protein Applications by Hartmann Packaging reduce dependency on fossil resources and close supply gaps.
The packaging industry is facing significant disruption due to geopolitical tensions and supply chain instability. Fossil-based plastics, heavily reliant on oil, are increasingly affected by price volatility, raw material shortages, and limited availability, creating major challenges for companies worldwide. These pressures are driving up costs and making long-term planning more uncertain for food producers. As a result, the need for stable, alternative solutions is growing rapidly.
Scalable, locally sourced fibre-based solutions offer a promising way forward. By reducing dependence on fossil resources and helping to close supply gaps, FiberWise® MAP trays provide a responsible and reliable alternative to traditional rigid plastic trays for fresh protein and convenience food applications.
Plug-and-play high performance solution
FiberWise® trays reduce plastic content by up to 90% compared to conventional PET or PP trays. This helps manufacturers lower their environmental footprint while supporting circular economy goals. The trays are compatible with existing high-speed denesting and tray-sealing equipment, offering a plug-and-play solution that requires little to no additional investment or operational changes. The solution reflects Hartmann Packaging’s more than 100 years of reliability and expertise in moulded fibre technology.
FiberWise® - technically recyclable - Cepi method
FiberWise® fibre-based MAP tray solutions have been certified as technically recyclable in standard paper mills according to the Cepi method. This certification means the trays can be recycled without separating the barrier liner from the fibre tray, making disposal simple for the environmental conscious consumers and allowing the packaging to integrate easily into existing paper recycling systems.
Axel Fischer, Head of Public Relations - Ingede states:
"FiberWise® by Hartmann Packaging is yet another promising fibre-based packaging concept that has proven technical recyclability according to the Cepi method for standard paper mills. With its main component being recycling paper the FiberWise® trays demonstrate in a tangible way circularity from the paper and board recycling infrastructure."
